Frequently Asked Questions
Is enrollment into CJUHSD's Induction program mandatory?
Enrollment in our program is not mandatory, though if a candidate chooses not to complete Induction with the Chaffey District, the candidate must complete a Commission-approved clear credential teacher preparation program offered by a California college or university.
Can I take some time to decide if I want to enroll in CJUHSD's Induction program?
Though most prospective Teacher Candidates choose to enroll upon receiving the Teacher Candidate Agreement at New Teacher Orientation, candidates are encouraged to take some time to reflect upon the program requirements as outlined in the Teacher Candidate Agreement and return the form to their mentors during the first or second week of the school year.
When will I have a mentor assigned to me?
All Teacher Candidates are guaranteed a mentor within the first 30 days of program enrollment, but in practice a candidate will hear from his/her mentor no later than the conclusion of the first week of school.
Will Induction require work that resembles the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA)?
The CJUHSD Induction program is mentorship-focused as opposed to document-centered. Candidates will spend a bulk of their time meeting with their mentors, not to discuss documents, but to reflect on their teaching practice, challenges and successes they're experiencing in the classroom, and the strategies they could implement to more effectively meet students' needs and improve outcomes for all students. Though candidates complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) with their mentors, candidates routinely find the ILP to be refreshingly and fundamentally different than the TPA.
